Everyday Charities are working hard to help and support our communities.
Our featured Charity for this month is PODS – Parents Opening Doors (https://www.podstelford.org/) based in Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire.
The PODS team deliver vital services to their community and in their own words;
“Together We Can Make a Difference”
PODS is a long-established charity involving and supporting the parents/carers of children with a disability or additional need living in the borough of Telford and Wrekin. Our aim is to reduce isolation, promote acceptance, provide practical and emotional support whilst giving families a voice through our parent carer forum.
At PODS we achieve this by,
Hosting inclusive events to enable all children to access activities and create memories.
Hold family groups across Telford and Wrekin to support families and their children.
Provide emotional and practical support via our befriending scheme.
Run workshops and events relevant to the needs of PODS families.
Work in partnership with Telford and Wrekin Council, Health, Social Care, Education, Voluntary and Community Services.
Hold social and fundraising events for PODS families.
Provide relevant information via information events, family groups, e-bulletins, website and other social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Offer training on inclusion and disability awareness to organisations an services.
From our experience PODS certainly do make a difference, it’s not just the big things, it’s the small things that help both the parents and young people, PODS really do change lives.
